I cut 95% of all wedding cakes I've ever made.
A non-serrated knife works best. Less sugary goop getting caught in the serrated teeth keeps a nice clean cutting edge.
I usually told brides not to buy the bridal knife sets. They are useless. That pie-wedge shaped thing just doesnt' work well for any part of the cake cutting and the knife is usually serrated.
Find a cake-cutting-comb (see link in my signature for a photo of one). I just can't cut a cake without this tool!
