I have tried a few recipes now from CC, like "Durable cake for 3d and weddings" and various WASC, and they still tend to crumble on me. Last night I had a sculpting disaster and I have a few more cakes coming up soon.
Anyone have some tried and true doctored or scratch recipes to share? I noticed on all the cake shows, their cakes seem really dense and dry looking, what kind of cake are they using?

Thanks for any help.

I've used kakeladi's 'original' WASC recipe for carving. Her recipe doesn't have any oil. The less oil in a cake the better it is for sculpting/carving.

I've also added 1 extra egg and 1 box instant pudding to a boxed mix and either cut the amount of oil by 1/2 or omit it altogether.

Thanks mamawrobin. I will give it a try. The tip about the oil is great. Does it make for a bit drier cake?
