This afternoon Gov. Granholm signed the Bill for the michigan cottage food law! Yippe! Here is an article about it!

Congrats!! Now if they would just do it in Florida...

Wow what a boon for Michigan residents. The $15,000 limit seems somewhat arbitrary. What is really nice (if I read the story right) is that you do not have to be licensed. Having done some research on PA's Cottage Law, you can bake from home but still need to inspected--need separate space, cannot be doing commercial cooking when cooking for family, etc.
While some might not like this from a food safety perspective (indoor pets for instance in PA are a no no), it sure does make it easy for folks looking to sell their products as a side business.

I'm already going through ideas in my head for advertising and re-organizing my work space.
Me too! We're in the process of buying a house and it has every bakers dream..two kitchens! We should be closing on our house sometime next month so talk about perfect timing! Gosh, I'm so excited!

Maisyone can you pm me the name of the store your teaching at now? Maybe I'll just show up in one of your classes one of these days.

This is wonderful! I hadn't heard about it even coming!
Just FYI, I tried 2x to read the 3rd page, of the link to the newspaper article, and both times Norton Internet Security blocked a "high level intrusion," and the page changed to something trying to initialize. Can't tell you what, 'cause I closed the page pretty quickly. Just be careful out there!

Being from Michigan (also Macomb County), I am beyond ecstatic about this!!! I had no idea it was coming!!

I am too pumped!!!!! This is AWESOME news!!!! Thanks for sharing b/c I had no idea. OMG! I was still looking for a kitchen to rent. Ok....must devise a new plan of action.

I am soooooo happy!!!!! I wrote down everything that must be in the labels, I can't believe this is really happening!

Congrats, Michiganders! This is great news!!

Yay! This makes me sooo happy. Now the article specifically mentions that baked goods can be sold at markets and food stalls. Does anyone know if it is limited to that? In other words, can you take phone/internet orders? Hmmmm
According to the FAQ, you can't sell over the internet. However, it seems you can take direct orders.

I wish we had this in Colorado!!! I hate having to pay high rent for a commercial kitchen!!

I want to thank Cake Central!!! I would have not even know about this if it wasn't for you guys I am just wondering what the next steps are now. As in what do I personally have to do? I am sure something right?
I have learned so much from everyone on here and again THANK YOU!!
