i have used the same recipe for years and have always had a lovely moist cake now all of a sudden they are really dry and crumbly, any ideas anyone im really frustrated, could my oven be on the blink. thanks
I honestly don't know the answer to this one, but if you suspect that your oven isn't working properly, invest in one of those little thermometers that hang off of a rack inside your oven. It will tell you the truth even when the outside temp control won't! Mine has saved my life on more than one occasion.
When I make my annual Christmas fruit cake, I make it several weeks early, wrap it in cheesecloth moistened with brandy or grape juice, stick a quartered apple in with it, stick it all in a plastic container and store it in a cool room. Maybe this will help your cake.
thanks for replies will take your advice on board.
Thanks for the tip about the apple, poohsmomma. I do the other stuff, but I'd never thought of that!
