I am making a cake with an African animal theme and I would like a few trees for toppers. I see a lot of jungle cakes have palm trees, and those are really cute and have instructions. But, I want to make the trees that branch out wide at the top.
I have fondant, or I could do molding chocolate, or even royal icing.
I can't find any pictures of cakes that have 3D trees like I am looking for.
Make a skeleton out of wire and mold modelling chocolate around that. You can then, when it's hardened up a bit, lay textured pieces of green fondant or gumpaste on and around it and use a texturising tools to mold it around and onto the branches. Snip with clean and sanitised nailscissors to get the effect of leaves. Don't forget to texturise the chocolate bark
I made a large tree (over 2' tall) out of cake dummies that I carved and then covered it with fondant. So that could be an option...except make them smaller.
