HI there
I'm thinking about tackling my first handbag next weekend and was wondering how people get their zippers to look so realistic. Any tips and pointers would be great.

Thanks

I use the wheel tool (not sure what its called) and it gives a really realistic looking zipper. Then I make the pull out of gumpaste.

I just made one today and I took plastic wrap and put it over a zipper, then pressed a strip of fondant into the zipper. It came out pretty good. I read this idea on another thread on CC, but I don't remember who wrote it.

I bought a zipper and used it to make an impression in the fondant. There are many types of zippers at the fabric store. The one I bought had thick metal teeth so I could make a good impression.

I've attached a picture of the top of my cake. You can see the whole purse in my photos (I wish I had taken more time to get better pictures but I was running late).

I made an impression of a zipper in gumpaste. When that dried, I pressed a strip of fondant into that giving an actual raised zipper.

For another option, Petal Crafts has a zipper mold. Here is the link.
