How Do You Get The Look Of Lattice? A Cutter?

I saw this pic on flickr & just love how she did the side of the cake to look like white lattice fencing - is this done by using a special mat/cutter? I'd love to do this, but all I can imagine myself doing right now is using a square cutter & cutting out each diamond by hand - and I know it wouldnt be as nice as this!
