I found them last night at Tom Thumb for .69 ![]()
! Walmart has gone up to .88 where I live so I thought this was quite a find. Now that is only on white and devils food, but I think with all the extras we add both of those should be fine.
Also I went to a new to me cake store last night in Plano Texas for anyone in the area. They sell 5 lbs of Satin Ice for $20.95 which I think is a pretty good price. I paid $27.95 last time for mine. Now they must package it their themselves from a large container because it is on the shelf in plastic wrap instead of in a container. But heck for $7 I can use my own container. It felt very fresh not hard.

is satin ice a frosting or fondant?
Teri (the newbie
)
Satin ice is a brand of fondant. It tastes much better than Wilton (then again, what doesn't??) and I enjoy using it better than other brands of fondant.

Oh thank you, now another question....hehehe
Does it work well for making figures? That is what I mainly use the fondant for.
Can I get it at Micheal's?
Thanks again!
Teri
BTW I wish we had a Tom Thumb near by....I would love to pay $.69 !!
mcalhoun where and what was the name of the new to you cake store. Plano is a drive for me.. I live in Ft Worth however I worked in PLano for 8 years so the drive is not unfamiliar.
Always looking for a new place to play.
Thanks from a fellow DFW'er.
Mel,
I also would like to know the name for my Dad lives in Plano and I could kill to birds with one stone so to speak and living in Fort Worth myself it is also a hop skip and a jump for me.
The cake store is called Cakes Amore. Someone said yesterday they carry mostly Wilton stuff - I sorta agree they had alot of Wilton but they had quite a bit of other stuff as well. It is at 151 Spring Creek Pkwy Suite 511 in Plano. It is on the NW corner of Spring Creek and 75. Their phone number is 972-517-0009 in case you need it. If I can answer anything else I will be happy to.
I agree with mcalhoun - I use Wilton brand for figures or anything else that will not be eaten but needs to be edible/food safe to put on a cake. Satin Ice is a soft fondant - I've never tried to let it dry to use it for other things - I wouldn't waste my Satin Ice on that. I buy Satin Ice from a local cake supply store, but you can order from www.cakedeco.com. They don't tell you shipping on their site, but I've ordered a few times from them and found the shipping reasonable. I did buy a bucket of fondant (black - only color my local place doesn't have) from them and I think I remember the shipping being around $1 a lb - don't quote me on that, it was a while ago.
If you go to www.satinfinefoods.com and e-mail them, they will tell you who carries Satin Ice in your area.

Thanks mcalhoun!! I actually lost a total of 100lbs and have put 30 back on, but like you I am starting to get back in control of it! I am taking my friends daughter to Disney in august and my goal is to have to buy new shorts because the ones I have now will be too big!!!
cakedeco.com has the 5lb Satin Ice in white for $16.50, but they don't tell you shipping AND there is a $50 minimum order requirement. FYI
I am in McKinney, so Cakes Amore is close - and that is a decent price since I go to the Sam's by there anyway. I live right by the McKinney Tom Thumb, so I think I will be checking on the DH mixes.
Thanks for all the info - anything to save a little! ![]()
Can someone tell me why the DH cake mixes took such a jump in price? Here at my grocery stores they have gone to $1.95 regular price and have not been on sale for at least 3 months. The PB and BC mixes are $1.39 but are on sale frequently for 88cents or 99 cents.

I noticed this too just before Christmas. The grocery stores (like Bi-Lo and Food Lion) were 1.69 but WalMart was still around $1. I didn't understand but was rather angry b/c I 'lost' all the cake mixes I purchased for Christmas cakes. I found them, Christmas Eve, in the pantry in the laundry room....forgot I ran out of room in the kitchen pantry.
I was just at the Tom Thumb in McKinney and they have the DH White and Devil's Food ONLY for .69, the other flavors are still on sale, but for .99. The white appears to be gone if you are at the cake mixes, but they have other areas in the store w/ it, so don't panic if you get there and it's gone. I think the sale is on today, and then tomorrow, and will end when the new sale flyer comes out on Weds.
Happy shopping!
I found the same thing at my Tom Thumb in Flower Mound. The expiration date on the cake mix is October, so I bought 66 boxes of white and 40 boxes of Devil's Food. I've already used 8 boxes of white, so I think I'd better get more!
I'm the one who said that I'D HEARD Cakes Amore was mostly Wilton stuff. I've never been there. I'm just spreading rumors, apparently. ![]()
Just so you know, I was actually at Cakes Amore in Plano, TX today. I bought 5 lbs of Satin Ice white fondant for $20.95. THat's the least I've ever seen it w/out buying it online. The bad thing about online is because it weighs 5 lbs, you have higher shipping costs. They don't have only Wilton stuff, but do have a lot of what Wilton offers. They also have cake boards/boxes, as well as a large offering of Magic Line pans, food colorings and oils, flavorings, and cookie cutters.
