Please I need help, I have never used pipping gel, and would like to do an ocean or beach effect on a cake. I see some people use it but what I don't know is if you put the pipping gel directly on top of the cake to make the effect , or do you frost the cake and on top of the frosting you do the water effect with the pipping gel? Thank you

Generally you would frost the cake first and then apply the piping gel. Water is often a layer of blue icing and then a layer of blue tinted piping gel to give the effect of depth.
