I am making a tree stump cake for a grooms cake. Since I do not have an airbrush, I decided to use fondant. How do I color it to make it look natural? I've checked out the cakes on this site and they are awesome!

Here is one I did in March for a cake show. I just covered it in light brown (beige colored) fondant and then etched it with a skewer. Then I used brown food color and vodka to paint. sometimes I had the brush wetter and sometimes dryer to give a variation in color. It naturally looked darker when it ran into the grooves. I like the way it turned out. HTH
