Oh wow...the 2nd premiere had some funny but not funny parts in it.

Like when Duff misplaced his ONLY key to the van...then found it (which I think he found it after he had gotten a replacement)

Then I seriously laughed when I heard Duff say "mmmmmmm Buttercream"...reminded me of Homer Simpson. I think they should make a movie and cast Duff as Homer... icon_biggrin.gif

My dh recorded the challege birthday cake show and my goofy son deleted it! icon_cry.gif (I fell asleep when it was on before) Anyways, I laughed at those parts too. I look forward to watching the next episodes and get some great ideas.

LOVE IT!!!!!! icon_biggrin.gif

Talk about an awesome staff! Duff rocks but his crew is perfect for him. There is some serious talent there. They all seen to be incredible at different things. I would love to take a class from them/him. Anyone know if he does them? I'd just go to Maryland and watch the cakes go by on delivery day and be happy. I'm so glad the show is back!

Rock on Duff and crew!!!! icon_biggrin.gif

ok, i'm probably going to get flamed but, does duff do ANY of the cakes?! i know he probably designs most, if not all, of them but could he do more than damage control on a fondant crack?
he's got like 25 interns now and a bunch of decorators. everyone in the place is working on a cake while he walks around chit chatting. LOL
(i'm just hoping that its the way the producers edit the footage)

ok, i'm done with my negative critique icon_biggrin.gif

on to the positive...that wrigley field cake! WOW is all i have to say! that was amazing. i would love to know how much he charged for the cake, nevermind the delivery!

I am SO HAPPY the new season is on!! YEAH! Duff and Geof crack me up! Geof is so funny, when he said that it would be better if Duff would help him and not stand there and ask when it would be done! HEHEH...goof! And then when Duff said that he was shaped like Barney Rubble! Hehe.

Really cool postcard cake. WHEW....So glad I have something to look forward to after a long shift at work on Thursday again!

I deliberately didn't open this post until now because we are 3 hours behind you in time. Ace Of Cakes just ended and I know I am going to love this season as much as the first one. Favorites tonight? The punk rock cake and the brides "cake dance" when she saw it. Loved seeing Mary Alice's wedding picture too. Between Duff, Richard and now Paul it seems shaved heads are the "do of the day" icon_biggrin.gif

I just watched this show for the first time last night!! I had never heard of it until I heard about it recently...I guess from here.LOL Anyway, what about when the lady went to deliver the $1600 wedding cake and propped the cake between her leg and one arm so she could open the door! Talk about a nervous break down!! Whewww..They should definitly take 2 people when they go deliver.

If that wedding cake cost $1600 then the Wrigley Field cake cost way more plus the 12 hr. delivery charge! LOL gosh probably 5 grand or something...LOL

I can't wait until next thursday!! LOL

I read an article somewhere that his 6" rounds start at $200, that the $1600 is a regualr average for him, and that he has done a $30,000 cake before. His show must have really upped his business to hire 5 more people. He is willing to tackle cakes no one else I have even heard of, would do.

Have you ever seen Sylvia Weinstock do a cake when they visit her shop? The most I have ever seen her do is arrange gumpaste flowers at a reception. I think when you are successful enough that you can hire a larger crew it frees you to work with the client, design the cakes and oversee the staff. That would be a great job, but I would miss the actual decorating and I imagine Duff gets in there and works on them as well when not on camera for filming the show.

Well we just got ace of cakes on foodnetwork canada about 3 weeks ago and after listening to all the americans on here talking about it I must admit I was quite excited and couldnt wait to see this show. Well I agree that he has a very talented staff and his cakes are amazing but I was disappointed because I thought they would show more how the cakes are done but its only a 1/2 hr show and he has like 21 cakes to do so you only get bits and pieces of whats actually being done. Personally I like the challenges better like the cake/chocolate/cupcake/sugar craft or whichever challenge they have going on that week. There you really get to see how the chefs work out all those problems and see first hand how to do certain work. well just mho

I don't see this show as a "How to" but more as entertainment. Keep watching, I think you will like it more with each episode.

I love that show but missed the premier. I wish they'd repeat it especially coming from a family of loyal Cubbies fans! Wasn't the Ace Of Cakes on TLC before?

I agree, it's more of entertainment. They don't give any details much on what they are using. I love it, though! I just love to see everyone's talent, and I love their personalities too!!
