I am doing 300 cupcakes for our local tball team. I am ordering my royal blue icing from Sam's Club. The icing comes in an 8 lb. tub. Does anyone know how many cupcakes that would ice?
Thanks for any help.
Vicki
I read that about 1 cup of frosting should ice about 16 standard sized cupcakes. Also, are you planning on piping the cupcakes or frosting? Are your cupcakes standard, mini, or jumbo?
The amount sounds a little low to me. It may only fill half or closer to 200 cupcakes. I made about 300 cupcakes in December and recall that my batches that filled the kitchen aid mixer to the top twice. I think it made about 5 1/2 quarts (about 176 oz) of frosting. I use used a 2D tip for piping.
I think, the frostings at the grocery store with the boxed cake mixes 1 lb and can frost 24-30 cupcakes. That may be a guide to use as well.
Hope this helps.
I'm going to be piping them. They will just be the standard size. Thanks for the info! It really helps.
I'm thinking that two 8 1b. tubs should do it, I hope!
Well, I just had to ice 360 cuppies for my daughter's preschool. I bought the 15 pound (I think!) tub of whipped Rich's Bettercreme, and only used half of it! I used a 1M tip to swirl the icing on top, and I think I put a generous amount on there. So you could start with just one...probably won't need more. BUT, I didn't fill them! If you're filling them, buy 2...ask to see the bucket before you tell them you want 2...when he came out with this huge bucket, I was shocked how much icing I was leaving with for $20!
Thanks mommybaker. I'm not filling them just icing. Thanks for the tips, I will check out the size of it. I live 45 minutes away, so I will probably get 2, and hope i don't end up with too much left.
