I have a KA Artisan. I received it for Christmas two years ago, and it broke about six months ago...the speeds are all messed up...it slows down, speeds up, shuts off completely, etc. I brought it to the repair shop and he gave me an estimate of $125 to fix (I already called KA and they told me to call the repair shop - they would not remedy it for me, etc). So here's my question - should I pay to get it fixed? Buy a new 5 quart professional series for $259 at Costco? Or by a new 600 Pro Series (6 quart) for $345 at Amazon, with a rebate for the $80 ice cream maker attachment (I need a new ice cream maker because mine broke recently). I was making several cakes a month but have slowed down a bit due to my heavy work load. I was thinking I could make a little bit $$ back by selling my Artisan for cheap and telling the person I sell it to how much it will cost to repair it, and or sell my bowls.
I just upgraded to the professional 600 model and I love it! I just wish I would have done it sooner.
I have been wondering the exact same thing! My KA Artisan leaks an oily substance from just above where the attachments go onto. The shop said it would be about $125 as well to fix but I have seen the KA Pro 600 at Costco for $319. I'm still not sure if I'll just kill my old KA (relatively - it's less than 5 years old!) or fix it so I'll be interested to see what others have to say about this...
Kate that main difference is the motor. My old KA only had a 375 watt motor, which realy struggled to get though double batches. Plus I love the larger 6 quart bowl...it's fabulous! ![]()

The Costco website doesn't list the 600...did you see that in your local store for $319???
It's on the Canadian website.
I just got my KA pro 600 at Bedbathandbeyond.com for $299 free shipping with tax was $319 and I am getting the ice cream attachment as a rebate which is worth $80. The color is silver sage online it says silver it would not have been my pick of color but really I would have gotten it even if it were purple! And I actually like the color kind of retro. But this color was marked $299 and all the others were marked $399. I jumped on it and I am SO glad! I used to have the Artisan. I can now make 4 batches of cake instead of 2...more frosting at a time too. It is saving me so much time!

Here is the link. I just checked it is still marked $299! Go for it!
I would say it is a cross between the two. Not slick and shiny like my Artisan was but not flat either. It is a great finish and I can tell you the picture does not do it justice at all! It does look very flat in that picture and it is not like that at all. I was so happy when I opened the box the color and finish was way better than I thought. But like I said for the price you can not beat it!
I called my local store and they did not have that color in the store or the warehouse either. She said that they may only have a few online because the color is discontinued. I had gotten a free shipping coupon emailed to me. Even with the shipping I think it was $349 which is way better than what it would be. you could try to google a free shipping coupon but I think they may only let you use a coupon under your email address only.
