How Early Is Too Early

Hello talented people!!

I have a cake due Sunday at 4:30PM. My nephew is getting his communion Saturday am, and I have to travel 2 hrs to get there. If I'm covering a cake in fondant--- could I complete it Friday night for Sunday afternoon? Or is that far too early?
