The box mixes usually average 4 1/2 to 5 cups of batter, depending on what size cake pan you are using the servings vary. There are baking guides available to use that show how much batter to use in certain size of pans. I went to another website and printed out this guide, very helpful.

Look on the inside of your Duncan Hines box. There should be a chart there that will help you.
