What is the best way to make basket handles???

Porbably use fondant/gumpaste mix and let it dry in the shape of a handle. Insert skewers or wires into the ends of the handle before it dries so you can place it directly into the cake.

I'd use gumpaste, cut the shape and size I want and then leave them to dry on a round canister, cup, jar etc for 24 hrs. The next day they should be hard as a rock. Good luck!
