i have tried to do a search for the popcorn used on the pictures in the popcorn cakes. I don't want to use marshmallows or popcorn krispy treats. Can someone tell me how to make the popcorn from fondant or gumpaste?

I just roll up little balls and stick them together to look like a piece of popcorn... it also helps to stick a bag in the microwave so you have popcorn to look at while you are working...and to munch on lol.
Then I lightly airbrush golden yellow on mine to look like butter.

You can also dust them with yellow if you don't have an airbrush. I've used mini marshmallows and small pieces of fondant.

could you use candied popcorn. the caramel popcorn type.

What color/kind of dust can you use to paint the popcorn?

I used buttercream icing to make my popcorn
