Gum Paste Recipe Egg Whites

I have seen gum paste recipes using raw egg whites and was wondering is it safe to use raw egg whites since the gum paste decorations will be on cakes?

i use the one on the back of the gum tex can and it call's for merange sp powder,

I've watched Edna's youtube video and she used egg whites in the gumpaste that she makes. I've never made my own gumpaste but I've ordered tylose so that I can try Nicholas Lodges receipe. I think it calls for egg whites but I'm not sure.
