I am doing a 12 inch square cake. Any tips . Do I need a heating core?

Thanks,

I think it depends on the recipe, how dense it is. What are you planning on using?

For that side I would use a heating core or the edges will get cooked much faster than the centre

I use a flower nail (as a heating core) in almost all my pans from 8in and up.

Thank you all . I also use the flower nail I was not sure if I should use something else. And I am just using Duncan hines basic white with a strawberry preserve filling. I have tried making my own and they always seem to come out dry.
