Transporting Beer Bucket Cake??

I am making a beer bucket cake for a friend this weekend. I have made one before, but this one will be traveling 2 hours. Should I place the bottles in the cake before transporting (I will not be taking it. My friend is driving it 2 hours) or should I have him place them along with the ice when he arrives at the party? If I should wait, how should I package the bottles so they won't stick, flatten, or break? I appreciate any suggestions you might have. Thanks in advance.

What type of supports are there in the cake to hold up the bottles?

A photo of the cake would probably help getting more responses, since it's hard to give advice not knowing anything about the cake design, the size of the bottles, or support system.
