Gravity Defying Cake Support Systems

I posted this request a while back but never got any responses.
We have all seen the television cake shows where the cakes almost appear to defy gravity!! Is there a tutorial out there on how to construct some of these internal support structures? I am not just talking about a simple center pole model. I want to learn basic techniques.

Did you have any luck with finding out how they make those cakes ? I am dying to know as well. I have also searched for videos which I was willing to purchase but I have found nothing yet. There are classes in america but I live in South Africa
