Supporting Tall Cakes- Need Help

If you are stacking cakes 3 layers high, do you add any kind of support to them, like dowel rods or anything to make sure the stay in place?

yes you will need dowel rods, in the bottom 2 tiers and one down the center of all 3

Rule of thumb is supports for every 4 inches of cake. I have done up to 6 inches but I was nervous every second of delivery!
