I am going to make a cake with buttercream frosting and want to use a brick impression mat.
My question is this - what is the best way to get great results? Do I let it crust, smooth and then do the impression mat? I didn't know if the buttercream would get a cracked look if it crusted over too much.
Thanks for any tips and advice!
Michelle
Here's what works for me
Smooth the icing like you normally would. When it has crusted nicely, dust your impression mold with some ps or cornstarch, and then press it into the cake. If your icing sticks, wait a few more minutes. Make sure the impression mat stays clean, wiping off any icing that might stick.
Good luck, hth.
