Stacking Fondant Cake With Center Dowel-Hole In Top

When you stack a fondant covered cake, and you put a center dowel through it, is there a way to cover the hole so the fondant is smooth on top, and you can't see there's a hole in it? Or, do you cover the top layer with fondant after it's stacked? Just wondering how to cover the hole if you're not putting anything on top of the cake to hide it. Thanks!
Maybe stack the bottom tiers and put the dowel in then have a small hole in the middle of your cake board that goes under the top tier, then place the top cake ontop of the dowel that is already in the other bottom cakes, of course your dowel would have to be cut short enough that it would not pop out the top. Have never done this, but in theory it soundslike it would work![]()
