How do you get fondant decorations to stick to a fondant covered cake? water? buttercream? I used buttercream because I had it on hand, but even though I only used a drop, it either didn't lay flat or oozed out a smidge

Water's the best way to go...not too much though, your fondant will become tacky. Just a little with a paint brush around the edges should do the trick.

I use vodka or clear vanilla extract to stick it together

Yep, I use water as well. I know some people use piping gel too.

Have you tried water with an artists' brush? Just a very small amount though. Sometimes I use a tiny bit of p. gel if it's a heavy piece to "glue" on. I've also used buttercream or royal icings but like you said, you get the ooze. I just brush it off gently with the damp brush. icon_smile.gif

a little bit of corn syrup would work too.

I use clear vanilla extract or water when I did my Course 3 cake. I also used clear vanilla extract to make my fondant roses.

I've only done it once, but it was with water and it worked great.

I use water also, just be careful not to use too much or it will ooze out.

I've used water, clear extract, vodka and corn syrup, they all work GREAT! Now for dry fondant to dry fondant I found that corn syrup worked the BEST and also to glue fondant to cookies! HTH

Your welcome!! You know what else works great for dry fondant, make some fondant glue, about 1 oz fondant + 1 Tbsp warm water, or equal parts both, works great but is a little more work... thumbs_up.gif
Glad I could help.

I use watered down fondant it works a treat. You just add a drop of water at a time to make it like paste and bingo you have paste the same colour of the fondant you are using.

Great tips. I always just used BC, but got the ooze. Thanks for asking the question, now I have better ways of doing it.
