How many store bought cake mixes do you use for a 11"x15" pan. Two cake mixes almost don't seem like enough but 3 seems like too many.

Thanks

I just did an 11x15 and made the White Almond Sour cream recipe. It calls for two mixes plus the extras and it was the perfect ammount, it adds up to about 2 1/2 mixes I would guess. The info. I recieved stated two mixes though, I like a high cake!

For the 2" deep cake pan I always have used 2 mixes, but I add extra's to my boxed cake mixes... usually add an extra egg or two. I'm usually satisfied with the size. icon_wink.gif

An "old retired" cake decorator told me a good rule of thumb is 5 cups per box mix - with extras, 5.5 cups.
I always use 2 mixes for that size and it seems to work good. I also add Dream Whip to my mixes and that will give you more cake batter.

That's something I've never considered trying... does dream whip make the cake more fluffy? How does it change the texture of the cake? icon_smile.gif

When you add the Dream Whip, you need to add another egg. In other words, 4 eggs, packet of Dream Whip, 1 cup of water and your cake mix. The Dream Whip seems to make the batter somewhat thicker, as if you had added a pudding mix. It also makes the cake super moist! Always get compliments with this "secret" weapon icon_smile.gif

I've always used 2 mixes for this pan. I'm gonna have to try the dream whip thing! Sounds great!

P.S.: it works for all types of cake mixes (boxed). Betty Crocker, Pillsbury, Duncan Hines, etc. I normally buy the Duncan Hines Deluxe cake mixes only because it's what I've always used. I did try the Dream Whip combo with a Betty Crocker Butter Pecan mix and it came out great also.

I always use two boxes of mix with the 11x15, and it comes out great! I just only Betty Crocker mixes, so I don't know if that makes a difference.
