I Want To Make A Cat In The Hat Cake...

My son turns 2 in August and I would LOVE to make an amazing Cat in the Hat cake. I'm not that experienced with fondant, but I have a while to practice. Not really sure how to go about making that 'hat'. I've seen it badly done
and want to avoid that! Any ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated.
I made one. It was only the third cake I have covered with fondant and it was a last minute request for my daughter's class. I have just recently started decorating but I can tell you that I would have made a trial run on a dummy cake if I had the time. The hardest part was that I seemed to have a lot of fondant on the sides since it was tall and skinny. It might be easier to cut some out and then smooth the edges together. Good luck and I am sure your son will love it no matter what. He is the one that really counts!!
