Hi. I recently ordered the CDN ProAccurate Pocket Thermometer ( Q2-450X). It comes with a rope and states 'perfect for thin cuts of meat, fish or poultry. Now I wanted a thermometer so I could make sugar syrups for buttercream etc. I dont know how i ended up ordering this particular model, but would it work for my purpose?

It will work, temperature wise. i believe it goes up to 450 degrees. the only problem I see is that for sugar syrups and candy making you want a thermometer that clips to the side of the pot and "dangles" into the liquid, not touching the bottom of the pan. You can get a wrongtemp reading if it is reading the temp of the pan and not the liquid. (I hope that made sense) and it can stay submerged in the liquid and read the temp the whole time as the temp rises.

The thermometer you got is more for sticking in a piece of meat and reading the temp for rare/medium/well.
