I'm making a 8 in baby block, I want it to be a perfect cube, so I'm going to use 4 layers. do I need to stack2 layers, then dowel, stack the other 2 layers on a cardboard square on top of the first tier?? hope this makes sense. I'm going to cover with buttercream and use fondant decorations, I just don't want the whole thing to squish down because of the weight. thank you so much icon_smile.gif

Yes you must. I make lots of these, basically two tiers with hidden separation.
