Help. Let me start off by saying I am new to making cakes . The last four cakes I made have been slightly lopsided. WHY???? The last cake I made was a three tier. Each tier was made of three layers of cake.
The thing is - I use a cake leveler when I'm cutting my cakes. So how and why do they keep turning out lopsided? Is it the way I put the icing or fondant on?? When I cut and layer them they look ok. It's after I icing them that I notice they're lopsided. And lumpy (you can see under fondant). I did the Viva paper towel thing too. Still lumpy and lopsided.
I look in the gallery and see all of these beautiful and perfectly clean cut cakes with NO lopsidedness. HOW can I get my cakes to look so nice and round? Or nice and square?
Help!
Great job on that cake!
One thing that may help is to use a bench scraper on the sides of your cakes. Hold it straight up and down as you go around the sides. I take mine and hold it level and soin the turn table as I scrape the top and get a really level cake.
Hope this helps
