Can someone please help me with the instructions on how to use a rectangular pan to make an open book cake? Please??? Cake due in two weeks.

Just carve out a touch in the center like Doug's drawing shows. Make sure to smooth the icing really good on that rounded part of the "page" and you should be just fine.
