I sent for that recipe and was struck to how similar it was to the recipe I have been using. I have NOT used this with a machine
It is from a generic book called "the essential guide to cake decorating" It is a collaboration so an author isn't even mentioned, it is printed by Whitecap. I made some changes to the original recipe to suit my ingredients. I measured my pk of Knox unflavored and it was slightly more than what the recipe called for so I just used the pkg. Added a teaspoon of corn syrup to make up for it and used reconstituted powdered egg white.
Flower paste(my variation)
5 tsp water 1 pkg. unflavored gelatin
1 T. corn syrup 1 T. white shortening
1 lb. powdered sugar 1 T. tylose
1 egg white(reconstituted powdered)
I am using this for flowers. It dries too quickly for me so I am using it with good result with 50% Sugar Paste from same book.

Many recipes are very similar. We found that the original recipe could be found on utube, various websites, receipe books, dvds, and in recipe card files of various ICES members from classes they had taken years earlier. All of the recipes had the exact same ingredients, but with varying amounts of each ingredient. Tobias and I are both inclined to experiment so we tweaked the amounts to fit our needs. None of the exact recipes worked for us.
The recipe on my blog is not "our" receipe, it is a colaboration of different recipes with minor adjustments - calling it "ours" would be dishonest since it is basically a recipe thats been around for many years. All of the recipes that we were given or found were at one point given to the public openly and are therefore free to use. The recipe that is found on my blog might not fit the application of someone else and therefore they can make any changes to it they need.
It is like a basic cookie recipe - if you add more chocolate chips and less molasses, its a different recipe, just with the same ingredients.
I went to the CT cake show sat. & saw it up close and personal. The blade housing has a rubber cap on it to keep the gunk out. I asked about interchanging blades with the expression so I could use it to cut stencils. They said not compatible. To those who are testing it now- I know the blade can be removed from the housing, have you tried to switch it yet? Is the expression blade to long, short or too thin?
Also, cricut on ultimate cake tonight and the 15th & 22nd. It will be launched on HSN april 14 and they are coming out with a cake Cuttlebug.
I'm gonna be broke!
