I've never heard of a cake filled with papaya. But you can find the papaya in the syrup (not sure if this would help) and probably marmalade on the hispanic food section. I know Goya has the cans of papaya in heavy syrup.
There is a recipe for raspberry filling which is basically 2 cups frozen raspberries thawed, pureed and strained, 2T sugar and 1T cornstarch, combine in pot over medium heat and stir/cook til thickened. I tried it today with frozen mango instead of raspberries and it worked beautifully! I should think it would work well with any fruit.
