I have a couple of brides that would like to use either a clear piece of glass or a mirror for their cake base. Is this idea OK? If so, how thick should the glass/mirror be? They are planning on the the cakes being elevated on some inverted tumblers. I am afraid of the cake cracking the glass/mirror with the weight. Any help is greatly appreciated. TIA

i don,t build my cake on the mirror.. i build it on reg. cake board, etc. my bil owns a glass company. so i have many sizes of mirrors. i put non skid material under glass at venue. then place the cake built on the cake board on that, etc. hth i have read on here that some decorators build on mirror. i wouldn,t feel safe doing that. this is just my opinion though.
