Ok, I have a client that wants cupcakes or a heart shaped cake to feed 40 for a b-day party. Big mouth me justed suggested the cutetst thing- a heart shaped cupcake cake made with red velvet cupcakes.

Here's the problem- I've never made a cupcake cake. I went to all the links for cupcake cakes and I keep getting messages saying "this post no longer exists". Does anyone out there care to share the "how to" for a cupcake cake? Are there any general rules of thumb to keep in mind?

Your help is greatly appreciated!

Rhonda

so kiddo you want to make a cup cake cake for 40 people right?
It's quite easy actually, just arrange your cupcakes on an appropriate sized cake board. (heart shape, any shape actually) "glue" the cupcakes to the board with either buttercream or a little corn syrup (so they don't slide around) frost the tops. Either leave them as frosted or you can smooth out the top and decorate as usual. Don't have to worry bout the sides cause there isn't any LOL!!! And the servings are easy easy easy!! One cupcake per person should do nicely.

My first CCC was the fear factor one in my photos. All you do is bake your cupcakes and let cool. Then, I arranged the cupcakes on my cakeboard, placing them as close together as possible. I secured each cupcake to the cake board with a little dab of icing to make sure they wouldn't slide. Then, you just ice it like a regular cake. It's really easy, because all the little cracks and crevices get covered with icing. Then I let it crust a bit and smoothed it using Melvira's paintroller method. Then, you are ready to decorate however you choose. It's also a good idea to measure your cupcake batter so that each cupcake rises to approximately the same height.
