Freezing Cake

I've made many cakes but I have never froze a cake I will be making a purse cake I was told to freeze it before carving, my question is when I freeze it do I carve it while frozen or thaw it then carve

Best to carve while frozen and sturdy. As it thaws it will be very moist.
