I want to make a 8" cake with a round top

Was wondering where to get a half sphere pan that is that large
and how does the batter cook thru in the middle??
Thanks for any advise

I think the closest pan to the 8" size is the wilton sports ball pan. You'd have to ice it to smooth it out since it has those flat areas like a decahedron. You'd still need to add a plain layer to make it a true hemisphere.

Can you find an oven safe bowl that is the size you need and bake a cake in it? That should work.

I put a flower nail in the bottom of the cake pan to conduct the heat into the cake center to even out the baking. You can also wrap tinfoil around the pan edge to shield the cake edges, since the cake strips would slide off.
