Painting Fondant Vs Dying It To Begin With?

I am just wondering, I haven't really ever used fondant before. Is it easier/better to mix the color into the fondant from the start, or to just brush the color over it later? I am looking to save time, but I don't want it to end up looking terrible if one is better than the other?

I find it better to colour the fondant before hand. It depends on what you are aiming for but that is the easiest by far. Margaret Braun paints on her cakes and others airbrush. But I am no artist and I don't have an airbrush.

I prefer to color it before hand. That way you have an even color throughout the fondant. I'm not sure about airbrushing, since I don't have one, but you have to wait inbetween coats to let the color dry. HTH!
