Baby Blocks?

Hi there - have a christening cake to do this week and the customer wants baby blocks out in front of the cake to spell out her daughter's name. Haven't done them before and was thinking of making them out of gumpaste squares glued up into cubes. Would this work? Does anyone have any other ideas?
Thanks!
Yes it works. We made them for this baby shower cake: http://cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=gallery&file=displayimage&pid=1328549
The one mistake we made was trying soooo hard to get the corners to stick together and hold. Then we realized that no one was going to see the inside and we put extra in the corners and essentially glued the sides to the extra piece making sure the corners matched up. Worked like a charm. Anything that wasn't perfect was covered up by the border color on the blocks.
Good advice, thanks! I'll keep in mind that I can put extra support inside!
