Does Cake Board Have To Be Covered For Stacked Construction?

I made a cake today using stacked construction, and I did not cover the cake board. I have done this a couple of times in the past without problem, but I got to thinking that this cake won't be served until tomorrow morning. Now I'm stressed. Did I mess up big time?

I don't think you will have a problem. I don't use cake boards anymore, but I have in the past. I now use cake plates-the plastic ones with the little feet on them--and hidden pillars cut to fit the height of each layer. I just feel more confident with that set up than using the dowels and boards. Your cake should hold up just fine. Did you cover the base board?

Thank you for answering so quickly. Yes, I did cover the base board with freezer paper, and I put a round of parchment paper between the cake board and the base cake to prevent sticking.

Thanks. I feel like the cake business has been two steps forward, one step back. I produce a cake that I'm happy with, and then I think of little things that make me worry or make me realize that I have a long way to go. Hopefully one day I can be more confident with my product! Thanks again for responding.

I have a photo in "My Photos" Blue w/ Gold rim.. I think it would just dress it up more..
