Bonfire Flames--How Would You Do Them?

I decided to make this cake for dh, after many suggestions from other members (thanks gals icon_smile.gif ).

Now, I'm just wondering how you guys would go about making the flames?

Would you make individual flames before hand & let them dry? Would you make a "sheet" that has cut outs & wrap it around the cake?

How would you get the "curl" to the flames? I just think it's soooo cool & will fit my pyromaniac husband!!!!

I would make GP flames and let them dry.

or rice paper

I have never worked w/ rice paper.....any tips?

How would you get the curl in the flames---since they aren't flat

i think the gelatin or gp would work

Never worked w/ gelatin either icon_smile.gif. Any tips? Would they be transparent?

if you're up for the challenge then you could do them in pulled sugar. that would look very flame like.
