A question for those of you with satellite what do you all do about computer hook up??

here if you have cable you can get cable for your computer, but if you have a satellite then you need to have a dsl line for your computer (yes they usually do a package type thing) and last i checked i couldn't get it.

For those of you who have lost your favorite channels. Have you tried the internet to watch some of those programs, some you can watch though there web sites others you can catch on sites like Hulu

We are TV free after the change from analog to digital. What I wanted to clarify we decided to go TV free. That is what I mean by unplugged. I am deaf so I don't watch TV.

We use the computer or rent DVD's.

My husband is easy going guy. He watches the kids. He works at home and also teachers Bikram yoga.

He also will be using his vacation time in August to watch the kids while I go to ICES convention in San Diego. When goes to computer conventions or yoga workshops I watch the kids. My husband is not a dictator very easy going, calm, guy. He even learned ASL sign language (ASL). I can read lips though. He is almost fluent. that next month in February he will be taking a test so he can be certified in ASL.

I don't think my husband is a dictator!

Bundtdiva, he sounds like a great guy! My 28 year old daughter is hearing impaired, and her sister and I are really the only people in her family who learned sign language. Fortunately, she has some residual hearing and communicates reasonably well with the rest of the family orally. Learning ASL as an adult is no small feat, but it's what we do for the people we love. Good luck to him on getting certified. There's such a need for good interpreters.

I'm envious of you that you get to go to ICES. What a fun trip!! Do they have any interpreting services at events like that, or will you be on your own? At least a lot of cake decorating is visual.

And by the way, I doubt that children are harmed in any way by growing up without a TV. I don't think it's a bad choice at all for families. There's some good stuff for kids on TV, but you have to really monitor it. I'd rather see a kid reading a book or playing a game with sibs or parents than watching TV any day. My kids had TV growing up, but I limited their viewing and they absolutely NEVER had a TV in their rooms. All available studies agree that it's a bad idea.

I was watching the cooking shows on PBS today. The ones that aren't getting FN should be THANKFUL. There was no cleveage, no down home butter queen, no meals under 10 buck BS. Just good cooking it was fantabulous icon_biggrin.gif.

The funny thing was it WAS all about the food, not the personality cooking it. Thankfully some network has the collective head on straight.

when I attend events I usually have an ASL interpreter with me. Otherwise I read try to read lips. I stay away from hands on classes and only sign up for demo classes. Too confusing for me too watch the ASL interpreter and practice on a cake.

This summer I am going with a friend who is fluent in ASL. She will be taking hands on classes I am interested and I will pay her for those classes.

Can't wait to go to California. will be staying with Friends in Fallbrook

Ruthi -

Thank you for the kind comments. My husband and kids are hearing and sometime it is frustrating trying to understand what people around you are communicating back.

Again, thank you for understanding. I'm glad your daughter has some hearing . I can't hear only feel vibrations. Last week, my husband took me, my kids, and another couple to attend a classical guitar concert. I only can watch the performers facial and body expressions. The classical guitarist was playing Malguena. There are days I wish I at least one day have the ability to hear.

I dont think most people realize that you can watch most TV programs on the computer. There are severl websites that offer it as well as the najor networks own websites. Also with the right cable you can watch your computer through your TV.

When we lived on the island, we didn't have TV at all for 11 years. It was nice.
