How Do I Make A Gumpaste Road Sign Post....

i am going to make a gumpaste road sign that is 4" long by 2 1/2" high for the top of a birthday cake.

sign is going to look something like this picture i found on flickr, but i may want to use only one post instead of two so it will look more like a street sign. size of sign may not allow that though...

ok, here's the question, lol: what do i use for the sign post? i don't want to use pretzels. if i have to use a wood skewer or lollipop stick i will, but i would like not to have too. any ideas?

How about those pirouette cookies <SP> you know those cookies that are wound up and sometimes have chocolate dip on one end?

You could use an oreo cookie straw. But you will still most likely need a lollipop stick for support in the centre. THat is what I have found, anyway... Maybe you could use a candy cane?
