How Many Of You Cc Would Like To Have Comments !!!
Decorating By miasuzzette Updated 28 Dec 2009 , 10:31pm by motherofgrace
i like it when a comment is posted on a cake that asks a question about how it was made and it gets answered. that way everyone learns! half-the battle, ya?
Truly, the proper way to do this would be to PM the creator, and if they are willing to share how they did something, they'll let ya know! People that do it the way you mentioned, are wonderful to share that way. But it's not something that should be expected or demanded. Not saying you feel that way, but there are people who do. ![]()
I like the comments that ask for detailed instructions to be emailed to them.

This is true! When I started looking at CC pictures, I always read all comments on cakes I liked to find tips! (this was very important to me because I have learnt everything here, never took classes). As a newbie, I hadn't found out about the existence of PMs nor realized tha CCers would be so helpful.
I remember the first time I PM someone and how nicely she answered me...
Any way, comments are very important to me. It's not like I feel that everyone should comment. But lots of cakes have more favorites than comments. That makes me feel like people are watching more to get ideas than to appreciate the work. I get most ideas from others too, but I also leave my gratitude in comments.
When I get a comment from someone, I always check on that person's cakes to leave comments too. If they took the time to comment on me, I surely take the time to take a peek at their art. I have found lot's of nice surprises this way and some friends too.
When I come to CC, I always leave a commen in at least half a dozen of cakes.
I think receiving a comment on your cakes are great, but to me it's not a big deal. I try not to get bent out of shape over if my cakes are satifying to everyone. I comment on cakes sometimes and sometimes i don't, that does not mean i did not like the cake.
yes, it makes me sad when i put up something and dont get 1 comment
I 2nd, 3rd, and 4th that Sweetheart!
But to each their own...
So you would rather have a comment, just to have a comment rather than because someone actually found your cake interesting enough to spend the time to write a genuine comment or thought about your creation? I guess to each his own is right...
Of course I have no photos posted. I thoroughly read the 'Terms & Conditions' policy before I became a member.
You might want to take another look. CC has changed their "terms & conditions", bringing them more in line with what you would find on Flickr.
Read it again last week, Gemini, but thanks. I still won't post photos because of this policy.
Bellaflor.... you're my favorite. You totally called the OP out by doing some research on her photos.
I, too, love the comments with demands for extremely detailed tutorials to be sent.
Oh man I'm glad I'm past the "needs validation" phase of my life. Don't worry girls........you'll outgrow it too someday. ![]()
I also don't ask my DH "does my a$$ looks fat in these jeans" I know he'll lie and say no.
That's what "meaningless photo comments" are, they're the "no dear your rump looks scrumptious in those jeans" of the cake world. ![]()

WTH?!?! You said I was your favorite! Damn you Mensch. Damn you.

I was just about to say, "Okay, I now forgive you Mensch from when you said Jamie was your favorite". ![]()

anamado- just looked at your pictures your cakes are SO pretty! That is amazing that you pretty much taught yourself! You have true talent!!!
I've been decorating cakes as a hobby for six months. I often come to CC for ideas also, I've learned a lot from the website.

Too funny and very true!!
I don't even CARE that my ass IS fat in whatever pants I'm wearing!
As I tell my youngest ..... We may be fat, but we're GORGEOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ![]()

Pssst! I also don't even need hubby to tell me I look nice. Doesnt' matter what he thinks. *I* know I'm GORGEOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ![]()
To me as long as the client is happy with the cake or if you do not sell cakes the person you made the cake for loves it, it dose not matter what any one else thinks. ![]()
LOL - he's too cute to be threatening! ![]()
I like comments, but I don't agonize over it any more. As far as writing comments, my only hard and fast policy is that if the poster doesn't bother to write a description about the cake, I don't bother to leave a comment.
When I leave comments, I try to be as specific as possible about what I like (color is great, flowers are well made, icing is smooth, design is unique, whatever). I learned years ago in my corporate jobs that "nice job" is nice to hear but it doesn't tell you anything about what you need to keep doing in order to get that comment again. Non-specific comments are only helpful to massage your ego (which is okay), but they're not really helpful to develop your skills. I prefer the specific comments over "awesome".
Such a good point Ruth0209. If someone wants a detailed comment, it would help to have a detailed explanation of the method of decorating.
i'm a stay at home mom and a legal home baker and have a 10 month old and a 3 year old. i get on CC every other day if i'm lucky and when i do, chances are one, or both of my girl's, is on my lap...thus making it difficult to type (point and click is hard enough sometimes!). so no, i'm not going to leave a comment most of the time.
if i do have both of my hands, it's usually late at night and i'm up to my elbows in fondant, buttercream and cake... like most everybody on here, right?! and i'm usually going through as fast as i can, looking for a recipe or a picture i saved, etc. again, making it difficult to scan through and leave comments on thousands of cakes.
and if we're being completely honest here, a lot of times i click on a picture and think i should keep my comments to myself (nothing nice to say, don't say it at all) . and i'm sure people have looked at some of my cakes, and thought the same thing...i sure have!!!
so don't be offended it you don't get clicks, or comments, or faves, etc.....if the customer loved it, you've done your job!
ok this is my last post on here.
No one is saying everyone MUST comment. I am guilty of not always commenting. And its not just about needing approval.
the OP and others were just stating that it would be nice to get more comments. Also there is no shortage of comments on pictures, but there are a lot of newbie pictures that get missed.
There is absolutly no reason to be so rude (as some people are being) or put people down for just asking for some comments. I mean, what has this site turned into, where only a few select people are allowed to post something with out getting their heads ripped off??
wow. I don't think anyone has been rude. I think everyone is giving reasons why some people just don't comment so no one has hurt feelings behind it.
Along the same lines of not leaving comments - - let's flip this back onto the person who posts the picture. Do you think the person who posts the picture should acknowledge all of the comments? Do you think it's OK when the person who posts a fabulous creation gets 50 comments on how wonderful it is, but the poster never takes a second to say "hey guys - thanks for the nice comments"??? It's not like CC doesn't notify you when someone leaves a comment. Or is it a non-issue?
Any thoughts or is this just another big ole nasty can o'worms I've opened??? ![]()

Nicely done Newmansmom, nicely done. ![]()

I am one of
THOSE
people who have left the same comment on multiple cakes. AND I am one of
THOSE
people who think every cake has some feature or technique that I can say a nice word about.
If you received the same comment from me on more than one of your cakes OR if my comment seemed obligatory than I am sorry for trying to be nice. I love looking at cakes and spend some of my down time or "me" time just browsing the uncommented cakes and commenting away. I am slightly offended that my comments might be taken as obligatory. ![]()
Everyone does not have to feel the same way about this but I like to leave comments...short ones, long ones, even a "nice job" comment, just to say I stopped by to look at your cake and you did a good job. Any comment I receive on my cakes makes me feel good and I like to spread that good feeling around. Is that so wrong?
No one should feel obliged to leave comments and those of us who do shouldn't be shot down for trying to be nice.
[quite=Why not, instead of griping about the lack of comments like needy children"[/quote]
You see this as not rude?

Oh I totally agree with this!! I leave a thank you all the time!
The point is NOT EVERYONE NEEDS TO COMMENT!!! I understand, I have a 2 year old and I dont always have time. But If someone brings attention to 4 people, and they comment on 2 pictures.... thats 8 more pictures that have gotten comments.
I dont see what is so wrong with trying to get a few more people to comment?
Please, tell me, what is wrong with that????
Kathyscc- I truley appreciate when you stop by and comment on a cake that I have done. I appreciate all comments. Thank you!
Being newbie I understand that my cakes don't compare to many that are on CC. So getting a comment is nice! But if I don't.. that is okay too!
