And just to get it on the official thread, there is my often told story about the bride who showed up for her appointment, with her
mother,
sister (MOH)
bridesmaid
and the 8 kids from her home day care center.

Yep, 12 of them.

I boxed up her samples and sent her on her way. She never got past the foyer. Sent me a nasty email the next day wanting to know who did I think I was telling her who could or could not come to an appointment.

Geez, well, it's my biz, so I think I'm in charge. Go figure.

And no, I didn't get the job. Thank goodness.

That's crazy! And if that was MY kid she was watching, I would be FURIOUS. It never ceases to me amaze me what crap people pull.

I am sorry for anyone who has had problems in these situations. But you know, you just couldn't make this stuff up. Does anyone else see the possibility of movie out of all these stories???????

I have had 3 during my 20 years in business. First was a couple with one wanting swans and one wanting doves on the cake. They got into a full shouting match with each other over this, I looked at them and told them the appointment was over, go home & decide which bird they wanted, the cake was not being done that day and I didn't need to sit in on their big decision - got the order - no birds - divorced a year later.

About 3 years ago I had a bride & her sister with sister's daughter in tow(a couple of years old). Half way through the consult the kid pees where she is standing! All the girls say is that she is being potty trained, accidents happen. I got a carpet cleaner in the next day to clean the carpet in the showroom and had it replaced the next week. I REALLY wanted to send them the bill.

This year I had one who was a pita with emails, phone calls and every question known to man during her consult. 200 guests, wants a cake for 30 with server cakes. I keep my prices on my web site - she had brought them printed out & placed them in front of her. I gave her the price and she goes into total melt down in front of me, tears, head on the table, she's not ready to book but it's her dream cake, please don't give her date away while she decides what she should do, etc. I get an email from her, can I throw in a fountain, flowers, etc. then I get a call that she has purchased a fountain at Michael's with a coupon, can she have an updated price with a discount for the fountain she has now purchased? I told her the fountain was never part of her price quote and her date is no longer available.

This is when she breaks down into tears - I mean tantrum at my table! She is sobbing that she wanted cupcakes all along - I had to calm her down (NOT mother or loving fiance), and tell them to go home to think about it, and that I would not take a payment until they came to an agreement (AT HOME)!

I should fast forward to the setup at the wedding (it gets better folks!). I was the "out-of-town" vendor in the hall, while everyone else setting up seemed to know everyone else - very friendly bunch though. They all started in with the stories about how bridezilla this bride had been (I kept my mouth shut, and continued setting up the cupcakes). The DJ asked if everyone would like some music to make the setup work go faster - sure! He dedicates the first song to the bride - I can't remember the song title, but it was about selling your soul to the devil!! icon_eek.gif

That song had to have made the whole ordeal almost bearable. At least everyone could laugh about it.

I've only had a few tastings so far and most have been fine and none so exciting as the majority posted here. I did have one couple that came in wanting a cupcake tower. The groom knew EXACTLY what he wanted but it was ridiculous. He wanted something between the tops of the cupcakes and the undersides of the next tier up to "seal it." What?! He wanted each layer of cupcakes "sealed" with some sort of icing. When I tried to explain to him that that wouldn't work he said, "listen to me. You're not listening to me!" I never heard back from them but needless to say I would have been booked had they called me. It would have been a NIGHTMARE.

icon_confused.gif Wow. What could he have been thinking? It makes you wonder what picture he had in his head.

Tell me about it. I really had no idea what he was thinking. It made no sense.

I hope other people keep this thread going. It's entertaining and helpful!
