I think that the little gumpaste flowers and other accents on the cookies are such a nice touch. I'm doing wedding cookies for my sister this summer and would like to offer that as an option if she wants (and if I can get the hang of it!). Hope you don't mind me asking lots of beginner questions! icon_smile.gif

Do you have any websites/tutorials/threads taht you would recommend reading to learn the basics?

Is gumpaste hard to work with? Is it hard to make such little pieces and attach them without smashing them?

What do you attach it to the base icing with?

What tools would I need to order? I don't have access to anything locally so I'd like to try and get it all in one order so that I don't have to reorder a bunch of times b/c I forgot stuff. I'm not looking to make anything really fancy (the gumpaste flowers that look like real flowers blow me away..I know I couldn't do that!)...just some basic flowers and shapes.

Thanks soooo much for your help! icon_smile.gif I really appreciate it!

Personally, I would not put gumpaste on cookies. It dries rock hard and doesn't taste very good. Although it's made of edible materials, it's not really meant to be eaten. Fondant would be a better choice. Even after it dries, it's still edible.

For my cookies (see some of my pictures) i use push molds with fondant or candy clay, depends on what i have on hand and what i'm doing them for.

For a supplier of these try http://globalsugarart.com/catalog/index.html

They have some very detailed molds at a reasonable price, they don't kill you with shipping and they ship pretty fast.

I agree. Don't use GP. Fondant works great.

i agree with the previous opinions on nixing the gumpaste idea and working with fondant.
as far as tutorials, check out the one antonia74 did here on cake central. it is amazing and easy to follow. the no-fail cookie recipe is great and antonia74 has a great icing recipe listed as well.
