Should you measure and cut the dowels before or after the cake is iced?

I do it after their iced ... you need to make sure to get the correct height for your dowels after you've iced the cake icon_smile.gif

After the cake is iced, otherwise the upper tier will sink into the icing, and it won't look very nice.
