You can lay a FBCT on fondant. I have done many FBCTs, but I have never tried to put one on fondant. However, this question has come up before, and I seem to remember people saying that they had done it. I use a 1/2 butter, 1/2 hi-ratio shortening buttercream, and it works just fine. There is a FBCT tutorial on here that links to a recipe the person uses for their BC. There has been some debate on here as to whether it's best to use an all-shortening BC or not. From the replies I have read, people use all sorts of recipes for their FBCTs and haven't had a problem.
