I have used wires to "shoot" stars out of the tops of cakes before. What is the best way to make this food safe?

use a flower pick to collect the base of the wires together (use a little icing in the pick to make the wires stay) then push the pick into the cakes. HTH

I use straws........just insert the wire into a straw and there you go!!!! icon_wink.gif

you can use those little tiny coffee stirer straws and insert the wires individually into those (sometimes I"ll dip the wire in some glue and then stick it in the straw so when the glue sets it's permenantly affixed to the inside of the little straw), then stick that in the cake...a minute amount of cake will go into the straw when you insert it, but it will also come out with the straw when they are pulled out

You can also dip the wires in chocolate to coat them. The tiny straws work great, too.

i find straws work great. if you just stick them in they cut through the cake. At least they did to me the first time.
