I have no dowels or have much time to run to the store in the morning to buy any but I do have lolipop sticks can I use a bunch of them to hold an 8 inch cake????

I think the lollipop sticks might soften from the moisture of the cake. They're so thin they don't seem like they'd provide much support either.

Oh, no. Don't use those. TexasRose is right about them becoming soggy.
